Research Hackathon:
Code For Health

23 October, 27 October, 10 November, 20 November 2021

The theme “Code For Health” was created with the aim to bridge the gap between data and healthcare by equipping students with knowledge from various fields of studies. Computer science students will learn how to interpret and utilise medical data and graphs for building better models to meet current needs in healthcare industries, while health sciences students will learn the possible ways of applying machine learning models in their field of studies for a systematic management, analysis, and interpretation skills of big data. This hackathon provides participants the opportunity to enhance your skills ranging from teamwork to problem solving, while building networks with experts from different backgrounds and expertise.

Participants will be grouped into teams of 4 (2 life sciences and 2 computer science students), and together they will exchange skills and brainstorm for a healthcare digital solution. There will be workshops and guidelines provided to ease the process.

Prof Dr Azizi Ayob

Prof Dr Azizi Ayob (MD, PhD), is a Deputy Director, IRDI (Commercialisation & Support), IMU, and Professor of Pharmacology, School of Medicine IMU and brings with him over 23 years of industry experience in pharmaceutical, biotechnology and R&D. He served as a technical consultant for two big pharmaceutical companies in ASEAN regions namely Chemical Company Pharmaceutical Malaysia in 2007 and PT Dexa Medica Indonesia in 2010. Currently, he is the technical advisor for clinical development of COVID-19 vaccine together with IMBCAMS’s researcher team of China.

Prof Leong Chee Onn

Prof Leong Chee Onn has conducted a multi-year research focused on drug target discovery, biomarkers development for diagnosis of refractory breast cancers and more. He has received numerous international awards including the Institute of Biomedical Science President’s Award (UK) and the Top Research Scientist Malaysia (TRSM). He was a Senior Research Fellow at the Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, USA and is presently a Fellow at the Royal Society of Biology, UK, and the Deputy Director of Research at the International Medical University, Malaysia.

Prof Patrice Francois Boursier

Prof Patrice Francois Boursier received his BSc, MSc and PhD in Computer Science in Université Pierre et Marie, France. He was later awarded with National Accreditation for Full Professorship in 1996, and Knighthood by the French Ministry of Higher Education for his service in 2003. With over thirty years of professional activity, he has been involved in both academic and industry related projects. Prof Patrice is currently the Programme Director for the Master in Health Informatics and Analytics, International Medical University.

A/Prof Dr Mohammad Faizal Ahmad Fauzi

A/Prof Dr Mohammad Faizal Ahmad Fauzi (M’00, SM’10) received a PhD in Electronics and Computer Science from University of Southampton, UK in 2004. He is currently an Associate Professor at the Faculty of Engineering, Multimedia University. His main research interests are in the area of signal and image processing, pattern recognition, computer vision and medical imaging. He is currently serving as the Chair for IEEE Region 10 Newsletter Committee, Past Chair of the IEEE Malaysia Section as well as the Advisor for the IEEE Signal Processing Malaysia chapter.
